WOW!!!! What a great day it turned out to be. A large number of volunteers showed up for TimminsGetClean.com first cleanup. Total volunteers for the event was ninety two (92).
People of all ages were in attendance with the youngest being Cameron Lamarche at age three.
What a great age to teach a child the values of a clean green earth. Thanks to his Mom Lisa for bringing him along. I encourage other parents to do the same.
I was especially pleased that Mayor Tom Laughren was able to kick off the event and that his wife Maureen helped with the clean up as well. The Mayor broke my record of 25 bags in no time flat. I’ve already spoke with Mayor Tom about the next cleanup July 22nd, he assured me he will be there with Maureen again.
Volunteers collected:
1,868 grocery bags of litter, includes 9 bags cigarette butts (from Gillies Lake Conservation Area)
1 - Computer printer
1 - Car strut
I - Bike
2 - Shopping carts
1 - Highway safety cone
Construction material
Cardboard
All the above items were collected in only short hours. Excellent job volunteers. Thank you.
A number of people I spoke with are so fed up with litter and the fact that city bylaws are not enforced. Get on the band wagon and join me and other residents to pressure city hall to follow through with bylaws. To date not been one fine issued. Where is the bylaw enforcement. Call city hall and pressure city hall. It is your right as tax payer’s to have city bylaws enforced.
So what are WE going to do about it? what are YOU going to do about it. Here are a few suggestions.
Please attend the next cleanup July 22, 2007.
Keep your property and street free of litter.
Next time your walking bring a few empty grocery bags with you, pick up some litter.
