Waste Water Treatment Processes
Both domestic and industrial processes leads to variety of waste including solids, water and gases. These types of wastes are directed into the environment and cab e hazardous. The harm made to the environment can, however, be reduced by taking waste through treatment plants. The end products from the waste treatments plants include recycled products, clean water and safe, biodegradable products. The processes involved in the treatment of these wastes differs depending on the source and the type of waste. Wastewater is a produced in typical all process including homes and industries. There are different stages of the wastewater treatment process.
Wastewater from homes is normally treated in septic systems. The septic system is not complicated but should always be functional mode. However, septic systems serving large populations are complex since they have to absorb lots of waste. There are however wastewater treatment plants for use in high factories and residential estates. There are manufacturers of wastewater treatment plants and can help with the design and construction of wastewater treatment plant. The process needs to be carried out per the circumstances. The manufacturers have engineers who handle the project since its inception to monitoring and maintenance works. These types of plants are huge capital investments and are also sophisticated. The water released from these systems are quality clean and therefore used at commercial levels.
The water treatment process ahs three main phases. Water flows through pipes either by pumping or gravitational force to large reservoirs. In the reservoirs, there is separation of floating and suspending solids from the water. Centrifugal force is applied at this stage. About 60% of solids will be removed at this stage. Chemicals can be used at times to increase the removal of solids. The water is then directed to the second phase also known as secondary stage or organic stage. At this level, the remaining biodegradable and suspending particles are provided as food to organisms such as fish. These organisms consume the biodegradable components in the water and remove the nutrients such as phosphorus and nitrogen present. More than 80% of impurities in the water are removed at this stage. Water released to the environment at this stage is not harmful.
However, to make the water pure, the third stage is incorporated. The phase is referred as the tertiary level and the water released is usable for a variety of uses. The water may be treated using various chemicals to ensure its safety. Chlorine is used to purify the water though it has been disputed in the recent times.
Water pumped to the treatment plant should not contain industrial chemicals. The individual factory releasing such waters should take individual responsibility by establishing a treatment plant at their base before releasing such water.
